MANY of us feel the need to take extra exercise before the Christmas indulgence (not to mention after!)  but one Frenchay woman aims to ensure her fitness drive helps others too.

Caroline Tarbuck is doing a sponsored swim this month to raise money for two charities that make a difference to people's lives – Young Enterprise and A Life for a Cure.

Caroline is the area organiser for Young Enterprise, which links young people in schools with industry mentors who help them develop their own businesses.

One of the not-for-profit organisation's board members and biggest supporters is Michelle Bresnahan, who set up A Life for a Cure after the sudden death of her 16-year-old son Ryan in 2010.

Caroline said: “I have always loved to swim, especially sea swimming, and I swim to keep fit at my local pool at the Spirit Club in Hambrook. I've worked in education supporting young people fro over 25 years and our Young Enterprise  programmes challenge and enthuse young people and prepare them for life ahead. Some schools are not able to afford to take part, so I hope My 'Splash for Cash' will help them..

“A Life for a Cure is a charity dear to our hearts and I want to do all I can to help Michell's campaign to find 'the ultimate vaccine' against meningitis.

“I will swim one mile each Wednesday in December.

That's 134 lengths of the 12-metre pool so there will be a lot of turns!”
