FIVE Year 6 children from Glenfrome Primary School in Eastville had an exciting end to last term - they were selected to take part in the CBBC quiz show Top Class.

Headteacher Inger O'Callaghan said: "The children had to complete application forms, answer general knowledge questions, and get through the final hurdle of a Skype interview in order to be chosen.

"They were then flown to Glasgow with their parents for four days of excitement! The children had to go to hair and makeup, which they found highly amusing.

"Although the end result is supposed to be a secret until the programme is screened, we can tell you that they did extremely well and we are very proud of them!"

The show, hosted by Susan Calman, involves teams of children answering questions from the National Curriculum.

Team captain Jenkin said: "Once we got into the quiz, we were confident."

Pupils Tomos and Sumey had not flown before but loved the flight to Glasgow and, along with their fellow team mates, were able to explore the sights of the city, visiting a science museum and an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet, as well as sampling the delights of deep-fried chocolate bars.

The team were entered by Gareth Grimwood, Year 6 learning support assistant, and were accompanied by their teacher Jess Rosser.
