CHILDREN’S charity Barnardo’s has received an early Christmas present from a local housebuilder.

CHILDREN’S charity Barnardo’s has received an early Christmas present from a local housebuilder.

Staff at the charity’s regional office in Filwood Road, Fishponds, recently received a £10,000 cheque from Redcliffe Homes.

The money will be used to support some of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.

Hugh Sherriffe, director of Barnardo’s South West, received the cheque from Suzanne Jones and Mandy Parker of Redcliffe Homes.

He said: “We are sincerely grateful for this very generous donation which will help to transform the lives of so many children and their families.

“Every Barnardo’s service is different but each believes in the potential of every child and young person, no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through.

“This includes counselling for children who have been abused and exploited, plus work in the areas of advocacy, young carers, care-leavers, mental health, employment and training, and fostering and adoption.

“Thanks to the support of Redcliffe Homes, we will be able to help even more children and young people to enjoy a better life.”

Redcliffe Homes has been making an annual donation to Barnardo’s since 2010 but this is the largest sum so far.

Tom O’Connor, managing director, said: “Barnardo’s is a long-established charity which provides tremendous support to disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people.

“We are delighted to be able to support them during the year of their 150th anniversary.”
