THE unique relationship between grandmothers and their grandchildren will be explored in a creative project based in Fishponds.

Called Grandmother’s Footsteps, the initiative involves workshops based at the Kingfisher Cafe.

Over tea and cake, grandmothers and their grandchildren will share stories and then work together to make various memento craft items.

Project manager Pippa Robinson said: "It's a lovely local, creative, community project.

"We will be encouraging the grandmothers to share memories with their grandchildren and to work together to create a patchwork, collage, book or embroidery giving life to these memories.

"Work created will then be exhibited at an event on October 8 to celebrate National Grandparents Day."

The project, which will run at the Kingfisher Cafe on Mondays from 4pm to 6pm throughout June and the first week in July, has been funded by Bristol City Council and Arts Council England.

The first workshop on June 5 is open to all and involves a hand plaster workshop. It costs £2 per family and places can be booked by emailing mtunks@hotmail.com. There is space for seven families in the workshops.
