Man dragged along by car during homophobic hate attack in Staple Hill

POLICE say an assault on a man in Staple Hill is being treated as a homophobic hate crime.

The 23-year-old victim was dragged along the High Street by someone in a car between 11.30pm and midnight last Thursday.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said he "suffered scrapes and grazes", although he did not need to go to hospital.

The spokesperson added: "Due to information provided by the victim, it’s currently being treated as a potential hate crime.

"We want to speak to anyone who saw this incident happen and we’re particularly keen to speak to three witnesses – two men and a woman – who spoke to the victim’s friend, and were able to take down a partial number plate."

Anyone who can help the investigation is being asked to call 101 and quote the crime reference number 5222 162 279.
