New destinations for Fishponds passengers as bus routes are extended

BUS passengers in Fishponds will be able to reach a new estate and a major employment site from this month.

The Bristol area's biggest bus operator has announced that, from September 15, both the 48 and 49 services will be extended from Emersons Green to Lyde Green and the Bristol & Bath Science Park.

A spokesperson for First said the extension of the 48 and 49 would see six buses per hour going to Lyde Green and the science park but said punctuality and reliability in existing areas on the two routes would not be harmed.

Buses would use Willowherb Road to reach the science park from the existing terminus at Sainsbury's in Emersons Green.

The spokesperson said: "As the number of occupied houses in Lyde Green has increased and we have reviewed requests and feedback from customers, we now feel it is the right time to extend Service 48/49 to Lyde Green.

"There is not expected to be any negative impact on reliability and punctuality, as added resource will be used to allow for this extension."

The extension will mean some changes to timetables but the frequency of services to all points on the bus routes will be the same.

Once the changes are introduced, the first bus from Fishponds to the science park will be a 49 leaving Channons Hill at 4.49am on weekdays, with the first service in the opposite direction a 48 leaving the science park at 4.10am.

The final bus back from the science park will leave at 12.37am, while the final bus to the science park will stop at Channons Hill at city centre will leave at 12.49am and is timetabled to arrive at 1.16am.
