PUPILS from Fishponds C of E Academy have paid their respects to those who fought for their country.

PUPILS from Fishponds C of E Academy have paid their respects to those who fought for their country.

As part of their learning on World War II, children in Years 5 and 6 walked to the war memorial in Fishponds Park.

They learnt about the symbol of the poppy and all the variation of colours that symbolised the sacrifice of different groups during the war.

Each child made a poppy and took it to the war memorial to help them reflect upon those no longer with us and the sacrifice all who are involved with war make when serving their countries.

Academy principal Debbie Coker said: "The war memorial is a special place for all of us at Fishponds CE Academy after previous Year 6 children worked with Mrs Benarous, our humanities lead, and English Heritage Education to get the monument listed.

"This important work will ensure that future generations of children in Fishponds will be able to visit the war memorial and remember those who gave their lives for many years to come."
