BRISTOL Metropolitan Academy students received flying lessons, toured Gloucester Airport fire station and climbed aboard a luxury £7 million pound jet as their final part in the year-long Airbus Flying Challenge.

The 27 Year 9 students went up in groups of three, in four-seater planes and each had the chance to fly and take control of the plane once in the air.

The school was chosen by the Airbus Foundation as the first in the UK to be part of a new programme to inspire and engage young people in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.
