PARENTS and carers have been warned to be on the alert after "a potentially serious safeguarding concern" at Chester Park Junior School.

Head teacher Mike McNama told families in a letter that  a pupil walking to school was followed by a large silver car. He said the pupil was safe and the family had been kept informed.

"Class teachers have spoken to their classes about the importance of ‘stranger danger’.

"It is very rare for incidents like this to occur in our locality but I feel it is important to share this information with all of you so that as a community we can remain vigilant over potential dangers to our children."

He asked parents to reinforce the important message of staying safe  by walking in groups, staying on major routes and being aware of traffic and surroundings.
